5 crews were sent to Northernhay House at midday.
A fire at a block of students flats is now out.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.55 (Wednesday 22nd May).
5 appliances were sent because of the nature of the 5 storey building.
The fire was in the kitchen of a flat on the 4th floor and involved a pan on a hob and the extractor.
The whole building was evacuated whilst crews worked to extinguish the fire.
One appliance remains at the scene.
