Man treated for smoke inhalation

Crews from seven fire station worked on a fire in Cullompton on Wednesday evening. They were called to a dormer bungalow in Fore Stree after a number of reports about a fire coming from the roof.

As well as three fire appliances from Cullompton, Middlemoor and Tiverton were joined by crews on an aerial ladder platform from Exeter's central fire station called Danes Castle.

The extent of the blaze led to three more appliances from Tiverton, Wellington and Danes Castle joining the teams, with a command support unit from Honiton, a welfare pod from Burnham on Sea and an incident support unit from Bovey Tracey were also mobilised for Incident Support.

Crews got to work to extinguish the fire using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a safety jet and an attack jet. Further details to follow.

It took four hours from the first alerts to the fire being put out. It completely destroyed the roof and first floor of the property and a third of the ground floor. The rest of the property suffered smoke and water damage. One man was treated on scene by ambulance crews for smoke inhalation.

The fire started accidentally.
