A landmark bridge in Sidmouth is being closed today for engineers to assess the damage caused by flooding.
The foundations of the Alma footbridge were exposed by the water and have deteriorated.
It'll be closed until Friday while engineers investigate whether it can be repaired, and if not, what elements of the existing bridge can be salvaged.
Local councillor Stuart Hughes says the long-term future of the bridge will have to be considered as part of the wider strategy to address future flooding and cliff erosion.
