Emergency services were called to Market Street - near Exeter's Corn Exchange at 1100 last night.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called to Market Street Exeter at 11pm on Thursday 14 March following reports that a group of girls had been followed by a man – believed to be known to them. On attendance, a man made threats to harm himself. He was detained by officers at the scene and left in the care of health professionals."
