The Devon Air Ambulance is looking forward to having its new helicopter in operation this summer.
The charity also plans to start flying after dark within the next five years.
More than 850 people across Devon were airlifted to hospital by its helicopter last year.
45 per cent of the call outs were to trauma incidents including road traffic collisions and sport and leisure activities.
