Prepare for an influx of grocks! Time Out, a what's on publication, has named Plymouth in the top 14 most overlooked spots on the globe.
They say it's because of the Devon city's "spectacular seascapes, Instagram-worthy backdrops and adventures galore". which makes Plymouth a "memorable summer staycation" and "one of the world’s most underrated destinations."
Mongolia is number one on the list of underrated travel destinations. Plymouth ranks seventh, behind Lake Bacala in Mexico; Cuenca, Ecuador; Srebrenik, in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico; and Gippsland, Australia.
Four months after Time Out published its survey, an organisation called Destination Plymouth is having another bite of the cherry for those people who overlooked the story first time round. Their PR people, based in Scotland, are pushing the story to attract more people to come to the city. They claim: "Best of all, [Plymouth] is on the doorstep of much of the south west, easily reachable within an hour or so of Honiton, Dawlish, Torquay, Bodmin and St Austell among others.
"As home to the UK’s first National Marine Park, its credentials as a seaside destination could hardly be better and across the city and its coastline, there are so many ways to connect with the ocean as well as the countryside, history and culture."
