Police fail to meet target for fast attendance at emergency call-outs

Devon and Cornwall police have admitted that they're not meeting their targets for attending all 999 calls within 20 minutes.

They aim to hit the target in 85 per cent of cases but over the past 12 months, they managed it just under 70 per cent of the time.

Assistant Chief Constable David Zinzan says he's more concerned about how good the response is when they arrive, than avoiding what could be a very short delay in order to meet the target.
But he also says the transition to a new command and control centre, about a year ago, posed some problems, which are now reflected in the records of response times.
