Unemployed over-50s in Devon are to benefit from the skills of highly-trained former service personnel, in an innovative scheme starting up in Tiverton today.
Active Plus brings together military veterans who are injured or have post-traumatic stress disorder,.... and local people over 50 who need to gain new skills to become more employable.
The veterans often have a wealth of knowledge and experiences, and becoming instructors gives them a new sense of purpose and achievement.
Their difficult experiences also enable them to empathise with the feelings of depression and lack of self-worth often felt by older unemployed people.
