Three cut off by rising tide

The beach at Orcombe Point, Exmouth is inaccessible at high tide

Lifeboat assists at Orcombe Point

Three people cut off by the tide in Exmouth have been rescued by lifeboat.

The RNLI was called out to the area around Orcombe Point at 9.35 a.m. on Saturday.

The sea at the foot of the cliffs there cuts off Exmouth around high tide.

That fate befell three women, who were taken on board the inshore lifeboat and back to shore. No one was hurt.

The volunteer crew were on scene very quickly, located the casualties, took them on board the lifeboat and then to the safety of shore by the Lifeboat Station. They were not injured and did not require any medical attention.

Once satisfied that the three were safe and well the volunteer lifesavers prepared the lifeboat for further service.

The RNLI says: "Tide times and heights vary continuously and can easily catch beachgoers and walkers out, putting their safety at risk. Detailed RNLI safety advice regarding tides can be found at : https://rnli.org/safety/know-the-risks/tides"
