Three new Devon covid cases a day

Figures stay low this week

Confirmed coronavirus cases confirmed in Devon and Cornwall have shown no statistically significant change on the past week's reported figures. Thirty-four people in the region were added to the figures in the latest announcement; up two from the previous week.

On average about three people a day are diagnosed with the disease in Devon. The figures are split by local authority area, which this week listed  average figures of one case a day in Plymouth, with 0.14 cases in Torbay and 1.71 across the rest of Devon.

Across the Devon County Council area, of the 12 cases, three were in East Devon, four in Exeter, one in Mid Devon, three in the South Hams, and one in West Devon. No new cases were confirmed this week in North Devon, Torridge or Teignbridge.

By specimen date, the most recent case in Cornwall and Plymouth was from August 11, with Exeter, East Devon, Mid Devon and West Devon from August 10, the South Hams from August 9, Torbay from August 8, in Torridge from August 3, July 27 for North and July 25 for Teignbridge.

The number of people in hospital with covid-19 in the south west (a large area from Gloucestershire to the Isles of Scilly) has risen slightly to 18, having been 17 the previous Friday.

The R Rate for the south west is estimated at between 0.8 and 1.0, down from 0.8 to 1.1 from last week.

Torridge remains the place in England with the lowest overall positivity rate, and is third in the overall table behind Na h-Eileanan Siar (Outer Hebrides) and the Orkney Islands.

In total, Torridge has had 56 positive cases, West Devon 75, with 101 in the South Hams, 122 in North Devon, 212 in Mid Devon, 215 in Teignbridge, 230 in East Devon, 254 in Exeter, 285 in Torbay, 686 in Plymouth and 953 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Confirmed cases are matched to ONS geographical area codes using the home postcode of the person tested.

The data is now shown by the date the specimen was taken from the person being tested and while it gives a useful analysis of the progression of cases over time, it does mean that the latest days’ figures may be incomplete.
