Woman rescued from Dawlish fire

"Lucky escape" after neighbours raise alarm

A woman has been rescued from a house in Dawlish after her kitchen caught fire when food was left unattended on the cooker.

Neighbours who heard a smoke alarm at the property in King Street at around 2.20am on Tuesday were unable to raise the occupant. They called 999 and within minutes, three fire crews from Dawlish and Teignmouth were on scene.

Crews gained entry to the two-storey property and and found the woman suffering from smoke inhalation.

Once outside she was given medical attention by crews until ambulance paramedics arrived.

The small fire was extinguished quickly and a thermal imaging camera used to check for hotspots. It took about 50 minutes for the fire service to declare the incident under control.

Whilst there was no fire or smoke damage to the property, the whole house was smoke logged and ventilated naturally before being left in the hands of the occupier.
