Devon businesses join forces for charity

More than £15,000 raised for Hospiscare

50 teams took part in the Marnie Burgoyne Memorial Golf Day earlier this month to raise a fantastic £16,717 for local charity Hospiscare.

This year’s winning team were STR Logistics, who picked up the trophy for the first time in the 15 years they have taken part. Organiser Norma Foster said, “I was delighted to see them win after all the years they have supported the event. It’s been yet another fabulous day with the business community coming together to raise funds for such an important local charity.”

The event was sponsored by local estate agents Burgoynes. Owner John Burgoyne added, “We are delighted to support this fantastic event once again, it has become part of the social calendar in the Exeter business community. There is always a great atmosphere on the day, with some healthy competition between teams and plenty of good humour. Hospiscare has such a close place in my heart and it is touching to see that it is the same for many others in our local community too."

Louise Beeken, Head of Fundraising at Hospiscare, was pleased to announce that more than £200,000 has been raised for the charity since the initial golf day in 2005 and this milestone was celebrated at the end of the evening. “Every day our nurses are caring for people whose lives have been changed forever by a terminal diagnosis. We enable families to make the most of the time they have together, because everyday matters. The money raised by the amazing committee and local businesses has helped us provide care to the local community, together we are able to make a positive difference to local families during what is often a difficult time.
