Construction work continues
The size and scale of the new Dawlish sea wall can be seen as panels that will deflect the power of the waves away from land and back out to sea being installed by Network Rail.
The £30m scheme along Marine Parade should protect the railway for a hundred years and raises the wall from its current height by half to 7.5m. It will also widen the walkway to 4m from its current 3.1m width and include a barrier between pedestrians and the edge of the to stop people falling off the wall.
Work on the new sea wall continues to take place despite the coronavirus pandemic and still is scheduled to be completed before the peak summer season.
Progress has also been made on the new sea wall planned between Coastguards and Colonnade – the section to the east of Dawlish station. The next stage sees work start on construction of the footpath and completion of Boat Cove tie-in.
